ORTHODONTIST              
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Orthodontics, formally orthodontics and dent facial orthopedics, is the firs of dentistry that is concerned with the study and treatment of  improper bites, which may be a result of tooth  irregularity, disproportionate jaw  relationships, or both. Orthodontic treatment can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal with the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as "dent facial orthopedics
SALARY: $155,468 - $180,277
EDUCATION: Orthodontists are specialized dentists trained to diagnose, prevent and correct structural problems in patient's teeth. More than a decade of education is required in preparation for this career. This includes four years of college, four years of dental school and two to three years of post-graduate orthodontics training, as well as extensive written and clinical certification and licensing exams. Aspiring orthodontists are required to earn their high school diploma or GED. Coursework in anatomy, chemistry, physics, biology and anatomy is encouraged. Taking a foreign language is also helpful, since orthodontists treat patients from various nationalities.
